the Phone call

I just had to blog this call before I go to bed and forget it.

Logan was talking to one of her friends in Melbourne on the phone when she put Will on

W= hello whats your name

J=I’m “J” can you talk like a cyberman for me

W= no, I can’t change now, Im on the phone. Where are you????

J= I’m in Australia

W= Oh are you an alien????

J= no I’m a human

W= oh…. mummy said I can’t say frigging hell any more, I can only say cheese and whiskers.

J=OK can you talk like a cyberman

W= if I cut your head off blood will come out and you can look at your watch and then I can talk your bones out.

( OK the head off bit was from a picture he saw in the metro paper on Friday for a movie called Severance I think, and I have no idea about the bones out bit)

J=um OK

W= are you a crocodile??

J= no I’m a human

W=oh frigging hell…I mean cheese and whiskers your no good then bye bye.

I have no idea what goes on in his head sometimes

I’m Cool

Now I’m not meant to know this BUT

I’M COOL

Yes that’s right me.

The one that forgets to brush her hair most days, who still breastfeeds a 3 year old and who some days fails to get dressed.

I am cool

Let me clarify,

Today is Logan’s MSN day, this is the day when she can spend several hours talking to her friends back in Melbourne. After 5 hours( yep you read correct 5 hours, only teenagers can spend so long talking about nothing and get mad when you interrupt) I asked Logan to get off the computer so I could do a few things while Will was asleep. Logan set herself to BRB. I hopped on and started what I wanted to do, and her conversation bars kept blinking. So being the nice and incredibly nosey mum that I am, I opened it just to say ” Logan Will be back in a minute”

Logan’s friend “J” is a witty kid for 13, he would fit into this family quite well.

and he came up with just silly trivial things which I answered.

after a few minutes Logan came back on and “J” said

“I WAS COOL”

yay me.

Then to show how UN-cool I am we all sat down to do our maths for the next 2 days.

I am still struggling to get Erik to do any reading, this is partly due to his dyslexia and partly due to laziness. He struggles with reading so instead of doing a bit at a time he normally has a wobbly and I give in, followed by lots of cuddles and warm mummy talk. That is until I was talking to a friend who said her daughter can’t do maths?? When she does it she cries and says she can’t understand it, it’s too hard etc etc. Hm-mm, I thought this sounded all to familiar, I said, in a nice way, that maybe she can do it but knows what buttons to push to get out of it. I only said this because she kind of felt the same way and I also have had this discussion in my own head about Erik’s reading, so in a way it was voicing my own thoughts about my situation.

Anyway, the next day we went for a nice walk through the forest and dropped down to the library so we could look at books. Erik whinged and moaned about hating the library( I wonder sometimes if he is really my child, I felt my world open up when my nan got me a library card) that was until he found the Star-wars comics. In 3 days he read 6 of them and understood the story’s in them all, I know this because he keeps talking to me about them. This is from a boy who was told at 5 he was severely Dyslexic. Well to the lovely lady that told that to a 5 year old I just wont to say

“You have been Proved WRONG, so don’t ever tell a 5 year old he will always have trouble reading.  You have NO idea how damaging you were”

I want to say more but there is no point because it was over 6 years ago and she will never read this anyway.

When i started to Home educate my mini goals were mainly reading writing and maths.

They all have shocking hand writting which I need to help them work on but the rest is coming together.

My other goal was to help them become who they need to be, at the moment I feel I am letting this happen.  O.K, to each other they can be rotters, but to friends and stranger’s they show that they are intelligent witty people and for that I am happy and I must admit a bit relieved.

Injuries

In the past few days we have had the following injuries
Erik,

swollen, bruised knee from a sword fight with Riley, stubbed toes and sore backside from slipping on something wet.

Riley

Fractured finger from said sword fight, and black eye from Will hitting him with x-box controller

Will

slipped in water and whacked his head, pulled half of his toes nail off, got a big rose thorn stuck in his foot, fell out of the pram while trying to get in.

Now If I worked for Social Serviced I would be seriously looking into the way I parent.

We are going away to France on the ferry for a few days.  The kids have never  been on one, but, now I keep having these flashes of one of them skidding over the railing and into the water, I need to keep them immobile for a few days so all injuries can heel I think.

It is like the boys have been watching the 3 stooges and just keep repeating the scenes over and over again, the only thing missing  is the  canned laughter.

when the boys laid into each other with the swords I must admit I wasn’t amused as much as ambivalent to it.  They are always sword fighting, so I was more like “Well what do you expect” I did bandage them up though as I’m not that heartless.  But the more injuries added the more annoyed I got with everything, it was like

” Who left water on the floor, what where you thinking?”

” You know to put shoes on”  blah blah blah

Well that’s what it seemed like I was saying as no one ever listened.

Now I get to go away with the walking wounded, Well Will wont be walking as he can’t wear shoes so will be in the offending pram.  I hope we survive the trip

Oh there is nothing wrong with Logan unless she has developed RSI and just hasn’t said.

READ THIS

I found this sight today during a blog search it is for all mummy’s

http://shapeofamother.blogspot.com/2006/07/who-am-i.html

It is so empowering to see other mummy’s with their wobbly tummy’s, it is definitely worth a bookmark.

Since Logan was born I have always felt very self conscious about my stomach, and I hated anyone seeing it, even my own mum.  My mum has the most beautiful skin I have ever seen, it is so soft and smooth, If I was her I would be walking around with my belly out all the time.  Anyway I spent an hour reading stories and looking at photos.  Look at this sight when your kids are in bed and you have some time spare

this and that

We had a lazy weekend, nothing much was achieved. We did however take the T.V. out of the boys room. Originally it was for the xbox only, but this slowly changed to the boys laying in bed watching DVDs. So after one fight too many we took it out, reasoning that if they got more sleep the fighting would stop. They are getting a heap more sleep but the fighting is still going strong. Today after a nasty fight in which Riley threw his wallet which had his oyster card and some money in it at Erik, we have decided the T.v. didn’t have as much to do with it as we thought( they aren’t getting it back thought)

Mark is having the week off work, so yesterday we walked to the shops via Claybury park, this is part of the original Forrest that has never been cut back/cleared. At first Erik had a big to do about going for a walk in the Forrest, cool teenage boys DON’T go walking with family in the Forrest, they slouch behind scowling at nature. Then the fun of it kicked in and they ran around and picked blackberries for so long that by the time we made it to the shops they were so tired we put them on the bus to head home. It was lovely, Mark, Will and I went and had coffee and hot chips without the big kids talking over everything we said. We managed to have a semi normal conversation.

We went back to get more blackberries today with just Will and Riley. Erik had a sore knee from a sword fight with Riley, Riley has a fractured finger from the same sword fight so it was good to get them away from each other. It was so lovely there today the sun was out and there were berries everywhere, we were going to pick some and eat them at home with custard, yum, but Will took control of the bag and clung onto them for dear life. At one stage when I had a big handful of them Will swooped down and grabbed them in his tight fist,squeezed them till the juice ran threw his fingers, then threw them in the bag saying

” there you go”

We ate what we wanted there and threw the rest out when we came home.

After being home for 5 minutes we got a call from the agent saying a painter was coming around to paint the window frames. AAAAARRRGGGHHH the house was a tip as I don’t think any house work had been done for 2 days, so while the painter did the top windows we frantically cleaned up downstairs. Will spent the time sitting on the windowsill in the lounge with his pants off watching the man paint, at least we could keep an eye on him.

Will has been wanting to wear clothes this last week, it has been either his sportacus outfit, or a HUGE suit jacket and saying he is the Doctor( Doctor Who). This is very cute he has his sonic screw driver, the kitchen is the T.A.R.D.I.S., this is good till you need to go into the kitchen. Only rose is allowed in the T.A.R.D.I.S and Rose is imaginary so there has been a few tantrums around meal making time. But we did have some good one liners like

“The Doctor is going to poo now”

I asked Mark to dress Will this morning thinking this will keep them both busy for ages, Will was back and dressed in minutes. Mark had a big grin on his face, that was until I pointed out you don’t get points for dressing him when he wants to get dressed. True dad fashion though, Mark put on Cords that are huge on him and no jumper, Will kept walking around hitching up his pants. it is better than him going out in my pink satin nighty like yesterday though.

We have been doing heaps of reading lately, they are still reading about London in WW2 and Logan is reading an introduction to Sociology book. Mark has been talking about history and watching docos with the boys so I feel I can relax on that topic at the moment.

Now it is time for me to enter the T.A.R.D.I.S. and travel to a time where dinner and baths have already happend and all children are in bed or tucked away in their bedrooms mumbling to themselves what a horrible person their mum is.

Too good to be true

The boys were great yesterday (yay)by last night we had our answer, both had temperatures and upset tummies.  That didn’t stop them breaking the t.v.Ariel though in an argument that turned physical.  So now we can’t watch t.v.  The t.v. stays off most of the day and comes on at 4pm to watch Lazy-Town anyway so  I am tempted to wait before we get a new one just to see how we (me) cope without it.

The boys are bored, we don’t know any home-ed families around here, if there are any.  All there friend are on the other side of London, I think I will have to find a group closer to us here so we can all start making friends closer to home.   We were hoping that we would meet some at HESFES but the kids stuck to their old  friends and I stuck with Will so I didn’t really go out of my way to socialise.

So for the rest of the year our main objective will be making more friends closer to home, Logan will still have to go across town to study with her GCSE group but if we can get going to group an “option” it would be great.   The group itself is fantastic but it is the journey there and back.  It takes us just on 1 1/2 hours to get there with only one change ( with lots of stairs and Will in the stroller refusing to get out) but coming back is a nightmare.  It is peak hour when we head off home,  Will is always over tired, so screams for the first 15 minutes, the boys are usually hyped up on sugar so they act like monkeys, or circus freaks I’m not sure which, it depends on my mood to what they are acting like. They swing off the poles and yell and dance, it’s like travelling with my own troupe.  We don’t have a grateful audience though, they act like we have a disease, people change carriages to avoid us.  I have tried to settle them down in the past to no avail.  Now I sit  just a bit away from them pretending they aren’t mine, it’s better than when they start fighting on the train, when they do that I want to get off and leave them there.

One time I told the older 2 to get on the train and I’d meet them at the bus stop at the station.  This was for 2 reason

1.  They were down on the platform in the train and I was still getting Will down the stairs

2.I couldn’t handle Erik fighting with Riley the WHOLE way home( Erik was just in that sort of mood)

They jumped on, no drama, We jumped on the next one everything was fine for a few stops, then signal failure meant we weren’t going anywhere.  After 3 changes, I got home 2 hours after the kids, thankfully they saw sense enough to catch the bus home and not wait for me.  So I swore I wouldn’t let them do that again.  Even though they have a tube map and a phone with them, they aren’t familiar with the tube, it isn’t something I encourage, I know I should but they are not an an age where they need to go anywhere without me yet, even though we know a few families that let their kids catch the tube all around London, I am struggling to feel comfortable with the idea of them being down there on their own.

On the plus side we found a Karate school just down the hill from our house so Erik might start doing that in September, I am hoping it will help Erik and his anger issues, he looses his temper on a regular basis and throws what can only be described as tantrums when he doesn’t get his own way.

Riley i’m at a loss with though.  He wanted to join scouts but we can’t get him in anywhere, I thought the local church might have a boys brigade for him, but they don’t, they don’t  even have a kids zone, it is not a very family orientated church.  I find that weird, a church that doesn’t really encourage you to bring your kids. So we’ll have to keep looking.  We are slowly getting ready for our “school Year” in respects to what I want them to be able to do and what activities we will be doing ( hopefully) so I feel o.k. at the moment.

But I’m sure something will happen to change that.

GRRRRR

Yesterday Will and I made choc chip cookies.  They were very buttery thanks to Will chucking all the butter in the pot and me not realising until I started to clean up.  They went in the bin

Take Two

Today we decided to try again, this time putting the butter away that we weren’t going to use.  But today I forgot to put in the baking powder so we once again have thin wafer like choc chip cookies. This is a recipe that we have had for ages and have never made a mistake.  Take Three tomorrow .

The boys are still doing their maths. I have changed the books around so Riley is doing Erik’s and Erik is doing Logan’s.  Logan isn’t doing any maths till I get it together to look up GCSE maths for her to start studying.

The afternoon has been surreal.  I mean surreal because this sort of thing DOESN’T happen in this house, ever,  We went for a big walk and got some new library books on the London Blitz and children being evacuated, this sudden interest is due to the Doctor Who episode when the little boy has the gas mask stuck to his head saying

“Are you my mummy”  over and over

( it has been band from the house as it freaks Will out and gives me the creeps)

So the boys have just sat there engrossed in these books all afternoon, it has been great.  To celebrate this mini wonder Will and I sat on the couch and read Spot for 2 hours ( the same story for 2 hours) I feel like the dream mummy, that has perfectly behaved obedient children, immaculate house ( hahaha) and is a great baker.  Only kidding but it did feel good to have some quiet in the house   Now it is coming up to Lazytown time then dinner bath and bed…. for Will anyway.  what a great day in feeling like I have achieved something

i.e a peaceful house
